Charlton join other Championship clubs in race for Liverpool midfielder.

Charlton have joined other Championship clubs in the race to sign Liverpool midfielder Herbie Kane.

Goal are reporting that Hull City, Millwall, Brentford and Luton have all expressed their interest and it now seems as if it will come down to the player himself to choose where he wants to spent the 2019/20 season.

Kane has yet to make a senior appearance for Liverpool and spent last season on loan at League One side Doncaster Rovers and helped them to achieve a play-off place. They ended up losing to Charlton on penalties at the semi-final stage.

Kane made 10 assists in 49 appearances for Grant McCann’s side last season.

Charlton have had a tricky summer since their return to the Championship with a number of players leaving since they won the play-off final with that dramatic Patrick Bauer winner in the dying seconds at Wembley. All of those players leaving has left them short of players in midfield. Jonny Williams remains in talks with the club over a new contract but as of yet there has been no breakthrough in talks.

Charlton used the loan system extremely well last season when bringing in the likes of Josh Cullen and Krystian Bielik  who will be massive losses to Bowyer’s side this campaign. Utilising the loan market will again be keen for Addicks if they are to stay in the second tier next season.

It will natural progression for Kane to play at Championship level after proving himself in League One last season. Liverpool will want Kane to keep progressing and a move to the Championship is progression.
