Ex-Accrington Stanley and Blackpool defender set for Brisbane Roar move

Robbie Fowler is set to make defender Tom Aldred his first signing for Brisbane Roar.

The 28-year-old is a free agent this summer when his contract at Bury expires and he is expected to make the move to Australia, as per a report by HITC Sport.

Aldred has spent the previous season-and-a-half on loan at Scottish Premiership side Motherwell and has played a combined 61 games for the Well, scoring four times.

A-League side Brisbane Roar finished ninth last season and will be hoping former Liverpool striker Robbie Fowler can guide them to glory in the next campaign. The potential signing of Aldred will tighten up their defence.

The Bolton-born centre-back has bags of experience in the Football League and has played over 300 games.

He started his career at Carlisle United and went onto have spells at Watford, Stockport County, Inverness Caledonian Thistle, Colchester United, Torquay United and Barrow before he joined Accrington Stanley in 2013.

Aldred spent two years with Stanley prior to his move to Blackpool in 2015. He played a key part in the Tangerines promotion from League Two under Gary Bowyer in the 2016/17 season but left that summer for Bury.

His time at Bury hasn’t worked out and he left for Motherwell after under six months there and just 23 appearances. He now looks set for a new chapter of his career in Australia with Brisbane Roar.
